On Tuesday, November 2018, the European Section group (english option) went to the World Forum for Democracy, which takes place annually in Strasbourg, at the Council of Europe. This year, the forum was dedicated to gender equality and women's rights. The students and their two teachers, Ms Martin and Mrs Chopin, came by bus and very eager, in the morning, to enjoy the conferences during the whole day.

The students had to choose which "LAB" they would attend. A "LAB" is a conference in an hemicycle, where people from abroad (Albania, India, England…) come to present an initiative they launched. The initiatives were numerous and various : some were aiming at empowering women, encouraging them to vote ; others were about violence against women and how to prevent it ; and many more...The presentations were most of the time in english...hopefully headsets to get translation were available for our students, as well as for the people from all around the world who were able to attend the forum this day. The students found the LABS very interesting. Furthermore, some were more interactive than others : the crowd had microphones placed on tables, so they could ask questions to the speakers. However, each LAB lasted approximately two hours, so the less interactive ones were a bit boring at the end.

The students were also curious about the building itself. They had to get past security first to enter. Then, they were offered a badge with their names on it to open doors, as well as a pen and a bag in the colours of this year theme. Moreover, our young people were captivated by the magnificence of the furniture, which was all new to them. They found out that almost everyone in the building on this day were foreigners : they felt like they were not in France anymore, and they thought it was a good experience of multiculturalism.

Eventually, the students learned a lot on this day. It opened their minds to new questions and new debates. Hopefully, they will too participate in making a difference regarding gender equality and tell people what they found out.
